Transformers 3 :: Look Development and Rendering Pipeline

This was for development work of a BRDF style shading system based on proprietary in-house shading nodes written for Renderman (back in the days of prman13 or 14? I think). Used for many show assets. Metals, plastics, acrylics, fabrics, and clearcoat car paints were all rendered using this system with a simple global lighting/shading quality controller with pigment, displacement & roughness maps. The goal was to simplify Renderman for the lighting artists. Many of these shots are examples of our lighting team's work at Digital Domain using the system. I lit the shots with the Soundwave character (car & bot) & interior tentacle shots. The copier is entirely cg as well as the majority of bird-men and all of the aircraft in the descent sequence. The Mercedes SLS was a test for the system (reference SLS shown in the 4 images at the top).
