CAMEL is short for Climate Adaptation by Managed Realignment. It is a multidisciplinary research project, working with coastal municipalities in Sweden on ways to facilitate long-term planning of land use and adaptation in the face of rising sea levels. My main contribution to the project (with Nina Lemon and Daniel Eriksson of RI.SE) was the design of a scenario visualization to use in multiparty exploratory planning. The green parts in the image show land that may be intermittently flooded but still useful for, e.g., recreation and parking. One of our key contributions in the project is the recommendation to introduce the category of flexible planning zones ("flexmark" in Swedish) into municipal long-term planning processes.
