Tentsallation on Hays Street Bridge at Luminaria 2106 SATX

Participants will be greeted upon first view by the Hays Street bridge, which will be geometrically cloaked in a pseudo-skin construction of tents or tent-like materials. These will become illuminated facets woven within the bridge structure. Onlookers will observe the lit materials, which will vary in color and visible lumen. I intend on creating a constellation from the quilting together of tents from varying colors, which will illuminate the night sky for Luminaria onlookers. The art piece is intended to be one of beauty and wonder, but it is to question our feelings about these structures in our current society. Unfortunately, due to current strife in certain regions of the world we are faced with accepting people as they make dangerous journeys to find new homes. The refugee crisis is heavily debated in modern society. As a citizen of the world I believe it is our duty to see these people and temporary structures less as a threat, and more as a bridge to a more tolerant society.
