Ask Dr. Manny (navigation banner) - Here's a close-up of the final approved banner for the Ask Dr. Manny website.
HerSpace Breast Diagnostic Center - www.herspacebreast.com - My goal was to convey humanity and femininity in this website. In addition to the main navigation the interior pages feature numerous client testimonials, a walkthrough of the HerSpace experience, and a photo gallery. The ad agency I worked with provided logo and an idea for the entry page, and I did the rest. In addition to graphic design, layout, and coding, I also scoured the web for links to the site, and registered the site wherever available.
Education Testing Service -- Praxis TAAG Project - At a stint for ETS, I created handicapped-accessible web pages from PDF documents. The pages serve as test samples for future teachers. The XSLT document was already written, so I needed to run the XML through a parser, and build the pages from the newborn HTML. I worked with the user experience team on tweaking navigation issues, and learned MathML for displaying complex math equations. ETS lays out their pages in CSS. Previously I mostly designed in Photoshop and produced table-based layout.
Brady Trauma Gallery - www.prenhall.com/trauma Not for the queasy. This site was developed for future paramedics and other emergency workers to help them identify the symptoms and conditions they may encounter in their work. This is an image gallery designed to complement textbook learning. Larger photos appear in pop-up windows.
On Cooking, Labensky/Hause - www.prenhall.com/labensky2 -- Pearson Education/Prentice Hall often called upon me to design smaller websites to be used as tools for their sales and marketing people when selling textbooks to college bookstores. OnCooking was an award-winning title, perhaps that's why this site is still live today.
Earth's Dynamic Systems, Hamblin/Christiansen - Pearson Prentice Hall often asked me to design bridge pages that would give the user the opportunity to select their current textbook, and proceed to the companion website. These companion websites were built in a customized version of Vignette and would contain quizzes, videos, Flash animations, Shockwave tools, and ther items to enhance the learning experience. Much of my time was spent on the content inside these companion websites.
Ask Dr. Manny Interior page - Although www.askdrmanny.com has not deviated that much from what I originally cobbled together for the wireframes, I've included one of my original files, as I put together the original look, but teamed with someone else who coded the site. I assigned a slightly different color scheme to each content area, so that when new articles were posted in a particular category, readers could determine which area they were from. Dr. Manny Alvarez is a senior health contributor at Fox News.
