Kevin O'Connell

As a designer I've been fortunate to work with some top-notch clients. Most recently I collaborated with the team at AtHoc, who produce a suite of interactive crisis communications apps. Prior to that I contracted at Cisco, doing design and interactive prototyping for their enterprise collaboration platform. While at Microsoft I worked as a contract UX designer with the Office for Mac team.

I bring a variety of skills to bear on each project including creating wireframes and user flows, visual design, coding HTML and Javascript, writing requirements documents, and user testing.

At AtHoc, I collaborated with the executive, product management, engineering, and experience design teams to deliver mission critical enterprise solutions across a wide array of devices and form factors. As part of the process, I interviewed users and subject matter experts, and created personas and scenarios. I also did extensive interaction design, producing artifacts such as wireframes and user flows. I helped establish the product's visual design, as well as prototyping in jQuery and After Effects. I also spearheaded the creation of pattern and component libraries.

Collaboration Business Technologies user experience designer. Focused on advancing social media in the enterprise. Designed user-centered solutions for complex business needs. Drafted business proposals, created wireframes, and built prototypes. Assisted in the design of usability studies.

Office for Mac 2011: Interaction design, and high-fidelity prototyping for usability testing. Built interactive help modules for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Produced interactive and animated mockups using jQuery, Flash, and After Effects. Ensured adherence to Apple Human Interface Guidelines.

UX design for the Cisco ūmi telepresence system. Collaborated with industrial and interaction designers. Created wireframes, user flows, and prototypes of Cisco’s consumer videoconferencing system.

Designed and built microsites, banners, and pitches for Microsoft Vista, Office 2007, MSN, Dynamics, and Live.com.

Sole interactive designer with Newsweek’s Sales and Marketing group. Created engaging and effective interactive experiences leveraging animation, interactivity, video and original music.

Designed, developed, and illustrated interactive features, including coverage of the invasion of Iraq. Collaborated with editors and journalists to clearly and elegantly communicate breaking news stories.

Crafted a wide variety of product launches, presentations, interactive demos, and icons. Shot video and still images, created marketing materials using a wide array of software and techniques.
