Boronia Domed Satchel

I was asked by a customer, to modify the Boronia Bowler Bag pattern (by Swoon Patterns) to create an edgy, modern and college-teen friendly satchel for a gift for her daughter. She wanted a combination of the classy, yet modern and avant-garde visual aspects that comprise the unique shape of a domed satchel. I started by creating the canvas. The roses, as well as the black, white and grey ghingham design were digitally freehand drawn, painted and arranged by me in Procreate. The original pattern for this bag instructs the use of fold over straps, but I designed symmetrical and simple rectangular strap connectors, that I felt would accentuate the rectangular shape of the satchel. The client did not want traditional corded handles, but liked the look of hardware, which is where the design of the handles came into play. I designed a “mock” rolled handle, and also added a front detail zipper pocket to the design. The end result is very edgy, yet classy and can be used for other materials
