LinkMaker. - An Educational aid for children with autistic spectrum disorders. Autism has recently been theorised to be a condition which causes the brain to make too many connections when confronted with sensory stimulation, allowing the savant abilities of some, but causing the reclusive, distant traits of many. By encouraging basic links to be made at a young age, order and knowledge can be bought to otherwise overstimulating situations.
The LinkMaker helps children with autism
establish and remember these links. It works by asking the child to select and place cards which match a theme, or by asking the child to guess the theme of a given set of cards, enforcing the idea of the ‘obvious’ link.
This project was completed at Brunel University as my final major project, with help from Preston Park Primary School, where the prototypes were also tested.
A full report of the project can be requested.
