Undergraduate Work - Verte / prototype

Verte was derived from the use of a natural, recycled, paper-based materal that is generally used as an eco-friendly countertop called Shetkastone. The intent of the Verte chair was to demonstrate the potential of this surface material for industrial products such as furniture. I decided to use Shetkastone as the main component for construction by using individual Shetkastone slats as “posts” to erect and support the side Baltic Birch frames.

The chairs title Verte represents the idea of using Shetkastone as the vertebrae column in supporting the axis of the chair. To emphasize this story, I decided to expose space between the back legs to illustrate the notion of using the material as the backbone of the chair.
