June 12, 2011 Food page - This was a really fun photoshoot. We used a ballpoint pen to hold up the burger. The idea was a mockery of over-topped burgers; lettuce, tomato, onion, chili, mango, beets...

Tuesday, October 12, 2011 Peach Food page - First, this is one of my favorite pieces in my portfolio. It is the piece that currently is in the finals for the Ohio Best in Journalism Best page design award. First, I bought a lot of root vegetables, then composed a person from them. Easier said than done... Then I took copious photos of the construction, along with individual shots so that I could then work the root vegetable construction in PhotoShop to smooth the edges, and improve the composition.
Tuesday, April 19, 2011 Peach Food page - A pretty simple layout using some very good photos, combined with a photo illustration in the background.
Tuesday, January 5, 2009 Peach Food page - Our food editor created the cheesecake, we photographed each individual slice from multiple angles and then I put it all back together in PhotoShop. I wanted the layout to feel very graphic and straightforward.
Tuesday, September 14, 2010 Peach Food page - I didn't want the pizza to look too pretty. The pizza itself is real, as are the toppings. I photographed the pizza, but the box is a photo illustration. It needed to be pretty clean and free of oil, only PhotoShop could do that.
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 Peach Food page - I used original photography combined with photo illustration (the entire background) to create a layout that ideals harkens back to antique recipe books.
Tuesday, October 26, 2010 Peach Food page - I combined several photos of the individual items to create a photo illustration of southern food and then put it on a rustic wood table (in PhotoShop) to anchor the layout.
Tuesday, April 26, 2011 Peach Food page - I was really not enthused about the photos that we had available. And, I really wanted the main layout to give equal weight to each of the three subjects, so I went with the white apron as the text base and an evenly divided layout.
Tuesday, August 17, 2010 Peach Food page - This was pretty tough. I had to combine several photos to get the ice. Actually, we did shoot the soups and the ice, but to get the right light balance I had to work it severely in PhotoShop. I wanted it to feel clean and cool.
Tuesday, March 10, 2010 Peach Food page - I used Illustrator and PhotoShop to create a layout that would hopefully recall classic candy packaging.
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 Peach Food page - This is a simple PhotoShop photo illustration.
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 Peach Food page - We took some photos of the tailgate foods that were featured, but they just seemed sort of bland, so I created a photo illustration in PhotoShop and tried to create a more dynamic layout.
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Peach Food page - I kind of riffed on the photos that were taken to create a background that had originally been cropped. I wanted the feeling to be colorful and inviting.
Tuesday, August 31, 2010 Peach Food page - The photo was not significantly manipulated. I oversaw the photo shoot and I really liked the photographers results. I replaced a few of the letters with the appropriate vegetables to liven up the layout.
Tuesday, June 21, 2011 Peach Food page - Photo illustration created with studio shots of drinks.
