I am hard working, reliable and conscientious, which I believe are appropriate qualities for this field of work. Technological advances and sustainability within design are my main interests. My work experience to date has involved many aspects of design, from development design to manufacture and construction, which has given me an insight into the industry in which I feel I have a lot to offer. During my placement year I worked as a CAD design for INOX Equip ltd. Specialising in commercial kitchens and both designing specialised kitchen and laundry equipment for the healthcare industry. I gained great experience while working at INOX in design and also by being given the opportunity to interact with customers, visit sites, hold presentations and get a vast experience in sales. This experience helped me greatly during my final year of university and has prepared me for working in the design industry. Bett’s Building Services June 2012 – August 2012 I was taken on as an assistant to the project manager allowing me to gain experience in building and structuring from a plan. This has helped me to relate to the physical side of my plans ensuring that they are both clearly and easily understood. Kent Art and Design Architects June 2010 & May 2011 During my time here, I shadowed the lead architect working on plans for a new build estate. I experienced working with the AutoCAD program and learnt a great deal about it. Working in a design environment taught me not to be afraid to explore and present ideas in order to achieve a successful result. CGB Joinery April 2009 Whilst on work experience with this company I used AutoCAD and a CNC machine to design and build a shelving system. Again, this helped me relate to transforming a design from paper to product. I also assisted in building a staircase, which had been designed using the same process. I found this experience invaluable. Interests and Achievements I am a dedicated member of the Bournemouth University rowing team, which due to its gruelling training programme requires good time management in order to fit it in around my university work. Cycling is another interest of mine and I was a founding member of the Bournemouth University Cycling Club. I designed the club logo and kit, which is something I am very proud of. Also, I have been involved with Enigma Talks, which is an organisation that helps students gain one to one experience with potential businesses. I helped organise talks for students with lecturers, business representatives and entrepreneurs in order to give them an insight into working life and improve their opportunity of employment. Finally, I organised a team of 32 Bournemouth University members to row for 48 hours continuously in 30-minute slots to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Bournemouth University Boat Club. We achieved a British record and raised £2,500. I organised publicity of the event through the University Radio station and newspaper, as well as the local Bournemouth newspaper. Other Charity events that I have been involved in include completing the London Triathlon for ‘Demelza House Hospice Charitable Organisation’ and completing the Palace-to-Palace Bike ride for ‘The Prince’s Trust’.
