Knitwear Designer — Brooklyn, NY
I am a focused, creative and hardworking knitwear designer with 15 years experience in woman’s sportswear from concept to finished product. I have expert knowledge of gauges and stitches, as well as outstanding time management and great communication skills. I have a strong sense of style and a sharp eye for forecasting trends. In addition I am also an expert cad artist using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
2 years ago I decided to live my dream of working in New York City.
I started as the sweater designer for Rafaella sportswear a division of Perry Ellis. Previously they had a non-existent sweater business and brought me onboard to build the category. So far we’ve had a good reaction at retail for Spring 2012 with 2 sweaters as best sellers. Currently we sell to Macy’s, Lord and Taylor and Belk just to name a few.
Previously I have had the unique experience of being part of a brand new design department and building it up from scratch. With a small team of 2 (one designer for each of the 2 catalogs) we created seasonal palettes and trend reports. In addition I was responsible for designing and choosing fabrics and yarns for all garments categories. Also with my past expert knowledge of cad design I created original artwork, stripes, plaids, intarsias, embroidery and beading layouts as well as recoloring and putting prints into repeat from purchased print vendors.
I also had the pleasure of working very closely and learning everything about designing sweaters from the senior sweater designer at Sigrid Olsen. She is now the creator of the Nic +Zoe Brand sold at Nordstroms and many small boutiques
