Design Professional

Eric Day approaches any scale of design from product, furniture, to building, with an eye toward simplicity and pure enjoyment of the user. His design philosophy is that simplicity is not merely the opposite of complex, but the marriage of function and beauty. Trained in the marine industry where he developed his love of small spaces and the craft component in manufacturing. Previous designs include a strip built sea kayak, a line of wedding jewelry, and transportation products.

Black Flag Redevelopment - Lead Carpenter

Vigor Marine - Boiler Maker (Layout Associate V)
Spring 2009 - Fall 2009 | | Portland, OR

Responsible for the refit of larger steel/aluminum shipping vessels (Naval, Freight, Barge, Cruise). Field sketching and creating 3d models to generate tool paths for CNC.

Contract - Marine Designer
Summer 2005- Spring 2009 | | Portland, OR

International collaboration with Australian marine company and Asian manufacturer to design and produce two customizable luxury product lines including a sea kayak with outrigger and a paddleboard under a single brand name. Prototype production is expected spring 2007.


Lincoln 660, LLC - Assistant Real-Estate Developer
Fall 2006 - Summer 2007 | | Cincinnati, OH

Research and analysis of the historic Walnut Hills/Eden Park area in order to create and implement a redevelopment plan for the Firehouse #16 building in association with 660 Lincoln Development LLC and Walnut Hills Redevelopment Commission. Project proposal included a phased plan, cost analysis, visualization and feasibility studies. This redevelopment project is still currently in development.


FRCH Design Worldwide - Freelance Surveyor
Fall 2006 | | Cincinnati, OH

Contracted for two full building surveys for Macy's. One of the surveys was to create a construction plan for a building that was on the Philadelphia Historic Registry.


Design Forum - Environmental Designer
Spring 2006 - Summer 2006 | | Dayton, OH

Developed point of purchase fixtures and interior spatial studies for this retail design consultancy. These visualizations for clients like Walgreens and The Anderson's, a gourmet grocery store, helped to launch new product lines and unify the stores' communication message and experience.


Contract - Design Jeweler
Winter 2006 - Present | | Cincinnati, OH

Developed a custom line of jewelry for a client by creating designs in sketch and Rhino for various applications rings, pendants, cufflinks. Managed the production process through careful collaboration with a hand selected fabricator. Currently, the development of an additional jewelry line is being created for a Cincinnati based modern jeweler.


Sabo Construction - Project Manager
Fall 2005 | | Cincinnati, OH

Project manager for a residential design specialist. Assisted in the preliminary design phase to define consumer trends in residential housing markets and oversaw the construction execution of the new designs onsite.


Bonnette Design - Yacht Design Intern
Fall 2004 | | Holland, MI

This position was an excellent opportunity to excel in a small transportation consultancy. Developed new prototype designs through initial interior/exterior concept renderings, structural bulkhead and stringer models, and design development drawings. Collaborated in a prototype development from initial concept through production of pleasure crafts for major brands (Searay, Tiara, Rinker).


Big Red Rooster - Consumer Product Design Intern
Spring 2004 | | Columbus, OH

Collaborated on the development of new product lines for companies like Elmer's. Intensive consumer research and market analysis, quick marker concepts and detailed Alias model studies. These visualizations allowed the client to visualize how the initial brand concepts came alive in their products and connected with their core consumers.


Boston Whaler - Yacht Design Intern
Fall 2003 | | Edgewater, FL

Visualization and form study development for a new prototype, collaborating on concept, testing and production of the prototype. The launch of this 23' Cuddy cabin debuted with much success at the 2003 International Boat Show.


Hasbro - Toy Design Intern
Spring 2003 | | Pawtucket, RI

Challenging a large corporation to redefine one of their older brands was not an easy task. The purpose of this position was to be part of the team to take the dying Nerf brand and to revitalize it! The re-success of this brand came from multiple interviews with kids from different ages and cultural groups, creating a range of Photoshop renderings, and the careful management of the product through the tooling process.
