I create fantasy heads from a different realm. I am self-taught for 25 years with 6 years of study at Butte College in California (ceramics department) and one semester at the University of Utah. I create as I work with ideas that come to me while I am creating.
The busts I create weigh between 15-40 pounds. They sell for $2,500 to $3,500 each. Technique is Neriage, developed in Japan 300 years ago where they stake stains from mines to color the clay. My technique is using those stains to color my white porcelain in blue, red, yellow, green and black shades mixing colors together to get purple, lavender and other colors. I roll little oblong shaped items between my fingers to place on the actual bust and use a clear glaze over the top to cement them all together.
