Simon is a multi-disciplinary designer and artist establishing a studio in Sydney, creating furniture from urban salvaged timbers, plywood and ecological art installations that inspire, educate and restore indigenous species habitats.

Work History

Simon has studied design at Sydney College of the Arts (BA Interior Design) receiving the Design School Academic Award and also trained as a Natural Area Restoration supervisor and Ceramics (Ryde and Kingswood TAFE). Simon’s practice investigates social ecology, 3D calligraphic forms and habitats. In 2014 Simon was finalist in Sculpture at Scenic World and in 2013 selected for North Sydney Art Prize, Hidden, InSitu, SITV and SxS. He has been finalist in Fisher’s Ghost Open and UWS Sculpture Award (2010 & 2012). Simon was awarded High Commendation for SoTG 2014, InSitu 2013; and the UWS Landcom People’s Choice 2010. His art furniture has been exhibited and acquired in several private and public collections (Object, Tap and Casula Powerhouse galleries Sydney NSW, Northern Territory Art Gallery, South Australian Museum, Fringe Furniture VIC and Aust Embassy Germany) having firstly represented Australia for Talentborse Handwerk, Munich 1992. Simon is collected in the Australian Embassy Berlin, the NT Art Gallery, the WSI TAFE and published in Monument, Inside, Indesign and Object. After graduation he has worked with several leading Sydney architects and in design studios such as Tony Masters and BKH Burley Katon Halliday. Simons practice includes eco-art installations, public artwork, graphics, interiors, esd research and habitat restorations, in Sydney Australia. Taking much inspiration from a life sensitive to natural bushland, farm landscapes and conservation Simon aims to give back generously in responses with an understanding and passion for geometry, sculptural drama and habitats. His ongoing purpose strives for responsible eco-design innovation, with intergenerational global and local relevance.
