Conceived as the "heart and lungs" of the hospital, the work breathes (blue) in default, the average breath rate of a human being, and on interaction the sculpture measures and then projects the heart rate (red) upon interaction. Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Commission. - A joint commission with Andrew Small, public artist. This interactive sculpture was selected as the iconic sculpture for installation in the boulevard area. Bands of tri-chip LEDs are activated as pairs of integrated heart rate monitors are triggered by a participant's heart rate. The piece breaths blue at the average human breath rate when not interacted with, and then projects a persons heart rate in red when interacted with. View PDF
