Work History

Designer with 8+ years experience working on a wide range projects in the UK and New Zealand. I have conducted this on a freelance & commission basis, managing multiple projects working flexibly & to varying timescales. Design projects include; products, furniture, lighting, installations, manufacturing/production machinery & fabrications. Working across a range of materials and for a variety of clients has given me broad knowledge of good design practice, and also an awareness of the need to be flexible throughout the design process. In 2011 I launched 2 of my own products, exhibiting at design shows throughout the UK. This gave me a great opportunity to take my own concepts through to batch production, exhibiting, meeting potential buyers and making them available for retail. They are both currently available through www.great-british-designs.co.uk. Additionally featured by; The Guardian, John Lewis, WGSN & Pulse 2011 show curators - Clarion Events. Winner of the Invicta Plastics Ltd. Award for Design Excellence 2005. EMPLOYMENT & COMMISSIONS Manchester Children's University Hospital NHS Trust. March 2009 - October 2011. Lead Designer. Joint commission with Andrew Small, public artist. This interactive artwork was commissioned by the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Conceived as the "heart and lungs" of the hospital, the work breathes (blue) as default, the average breath rate of a human being, and on interaction the sculpture measures and then projects the heart rate (red) of the interactor. On the hour the work displays the time as an animation. In designing & developing the installation I was responsible for creating, managing and updating all production drawings & CAD data, sourcing components and providing drawings and manufacturing details to all contractors. Throughout the project we worked closely with lead contractors - Bovis Lend Lease, the commissioning trustees, landscape architects and art consultants Lime Art.
