Tower Urn

Design for Social Innovation, in the context of Hong Kong

In the Chinese culture of ancestor veneration, we know that the process of honoring ancestors is an act of filial piety, a tradition that align oneself to something larger in the intangible context.
However, this important tradition had taken its toll on the land scarce country, Hong Kong. Public Columbarium had run out of niche space and potential land for development of columbarium, while niche spaces in private columbarium are too costly for the low-middle income group for an alternative measure.
“Tower Urn” is a customized & modular urn that promotes collective measure of placing cremains of loved ones at home. Not only does this alternative allow an affordable honoring point, it also decreases the need of new columbarium development substantially.
