Preliminary concept developed for "landscape" configuration. Client wanted to have somewhat abstract horse race imagery, along with title text and depiction of event date in the visual presentation. Rather than inserting or placing a line of plain font text for the date somewhere on the page, I utilized the horse number pads the horses have on their backs to call out the date. School colors are dark browns, tan, maroon and gold.
Another landscape configuration design depicting horses racing, title and date of event. Less abstract than first, attempting to convey horses racing against one another.
Attempting to effect a departure from the previous two concepts by utilizing blurred and manipulated imagery of real horse race. Nonetheless, it is not so abstract as to make it unrecognizable as such. The "horse race" was central theme for the client and plays a significant roll.

Final design. It was decided a portrait view would better accommodate the booklet cover. The school committee decided the date numbers/boxes should match the school colors: maroon & gold.
