This is the sculpture in a sandblasting enclosure. The rubber resist material was applied and is being removed, but remaining wherever text is to appear.
After sandblasting and removing all the rubber material. It was a mess.

Client had a sculpture they wanted to fabricate, but didn't have the means to create all the 3D layouts of the pieces for manufacturing. The corten steel was sandblasted around the text, which was isolated from sandblasting using an adhesive backed rubber resist material.
