Master plan for the NESHER Cement Factory and its surroundings: A network of open urban spaces from the lakes in the north to the old quarry in the south will assist in connecting the Re-used Factory to the existing urban tissue.
The vast dimentions of the Factory's Main Building allow for the creation of a mullti functional center. The main theme of the new functions revolve around the field of construction and design. Thus, the renewed Factory now holds a convension center, a research institue, exhibition grounds, a Museum for the development of construction and many facilities (shops, restaurants, parking places, etc.) and open spaces.
Sechematic cross sections through the structure explain the combination of uses in the building.
Cross sections in different areas of the Megastructure show the flowing of functions thruogh the structure.
Part of the southern Facade of the structure, showing the new Museum and the pathway towards the main entrance.
A view from the open convention center. The northern facade of the original structure was left intact, enabling a ventilation and a view of the lake area. The open facade also helps in reducing the massive effect of the original Megastructure.
A view of the inner facade of the Construction and Design Museum. The museum was the only completely new supplement to the entire structure. It replaced a former structure, holding the furnaces of the old cement factory.
