House In Zachary - 3D Visualizations

I wanted to mimic a few views of this charming small house in Zachary, Louisiana (designed by Stephen Atkinson). I admire the concept as it has proven to be a very suitable design for the geographic region (deep American south). Also, it was a great way to test how many billions of polygons I could scatter in a scene (everything is modeled). I used 3DS Max, Mental Ray, and Photoshop.

This project was a great opportunity for me to experiment with "filtered" light. For the interior shots, I filtered hazy sunlight through slightly translucent leaves before it entered the translucent window treatments. This, in turn, softened and saturated the light that entered the living space.

  • Thank you Saul, These comments mean a lot to me. After looking at this project for so long, it has lost most of it's novelty in my eyes. Its refreshing to hear other's opinions on the images. Thanks for viewing my work. All the best!

  • Thanks Anand, I used MR for all renders. I find that MR was dramatically improved in version 3.6. Now IBL, Global Illumination, Final Gather, Irradiance Particles, and Importons can be used to calculate indirect lighting - Similar to Vray. This give the user the opportunity to optimize settings for quicker previews.. etc.

  • These are some great renders you have done. I loved the interiors especially the wooden texture used for the tables and chair.. the detailing on the chair is spectacular. You have used mental ray for interiors rite?
