This is some of the initial concept sketching. I knew I wanted to do a flood rescue kayak, but wasn't sure about the specific functions. You can see a combination of different shelters, expanding possibilities, and sail options with these sketches.
Rez-Q - Final product shot of Rez-Q.

IDEA finalist 2009
This series shows how Rez-Q can be deployed (either by heli or boat) and the user interaction thereafter. Notice the stretcher that can be used to help an injured friend.
This series shows how the sail can be transformed into an on-water shelter. There are shelter instructions on the back of the sail for the user.
Orthographics with basic dimensions as well as part call outs and materials.
This is a scale model of Rez-Q sitting on top of some of my preliminary sketches.
These are some of the physical model process pictures that were taken during the construction of the scale model.

Rez-Q published! - Rez-Q was recently published in a book called "1000 Product Designs," by Eric Chan (CEO, ECCO Designs).

  • Thanks for the comment Carl! You can see a glimpse of a research spread I created in my Rez-Q portfolio set. I spent the majority of my time researching current kayak systems as well as problems associated with flooding and the rescue teams that have to endure them. I could probably spends hours on this topic (I spent a semester on my thesis)...haha.
