The basic premiss of this product is to have a revolving blade (two blades in one knife). This is patented by Robbie Robertson (a very cool guy, a super friendly southern man with wonderful manners). The feature Drew and I invented for this product refresh is the sharpener + sharpener retention method.
The sharpener is securely attached with a hidden magnet. No matter how hard you shake it, this combination of geometry and a magnet hold the sharpener perfectly immobile.
Push down on the ball and this tips the sharpener over an internal pivot point which then peals it away from the magnet.
Once the magnet's force is reduced then the user can slide the sharpener free from the restricting geometry.
And voila! The sharpener is free to use.

This is was an interesting project because we face-lifted an existing product and gave it an enhanced feature. Sadly this feature isn't even talked about but I think it is really really cool. Using a magnet and some simple geometry we developed a quick, easy and extremely effective retention method.
