The Chicago Midrise project is a multi-use building with retail space on the lower floors and apartments on the upper floors. The main focus of the project is to maximize views of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago. The angled faces of the building form take full advantage of the views offered and the screen system reinforces these views while helping to organize the space within.
The screen system on the exterior of the building not only adds texture to an otherwise flat facade, but also helps to emphasize and control the views surrounding the building. The screen is more dense towards the street to deter unwanted onlookers from viewing directly into the apartments. It also illustrates the noise and density of the city and
how these factors begin to dissipate as the immediate distance to the city street increases.
