University of Puerto Rico Housing Complex
Hotel
Tallahassee Entertainment Complex Suburbanization has caused the current site at North Monroe street, Tallahassee Florida to be abandoned. The superblock is an integral solution to the use of public space, unifying urban planning with mobility, and limiting the presence of private vehicles in order to return the public space to the citizen. The development creates a super-block which discourage vehicles within the neighborhood.
The proposed project takes advantage of the public transportation available near the location by proposing a pedestrian multi-purpose complex. More sustainable mobility Integrate new bus stops and bicycle lanes and promoting cycling and walking. Revitalization of public spaces is achieved by slow down the pace of streets, increasing the spaces to stay and promoting new uses in the public space. The public space will have a variety of offices, shops, museum, art galleries and a theater to promote cultural activities and attract college students of the main two colleges located in the city. Ensure adequate facilities nearby, promote productive activities that generate employment and ensure social inclusion. Broad sidewalks and circulation piazza joins housing and appealing commercial and cultural venues.
The proposed housing units are framed in modular exposed steel members. The concept is to create super blocks with housing units that can be stackable and grow vertically. The structure is inspired on bridge trusses. Simple volumes supported by a modular steel skeleton will serve as spatial enclosure for the housing unit.
A central courtyard at the heart of each unit will create opportunities for natural light and ventilation of the units organized around it. The steel skeleton is flexible enough to create terraces and interior courtyards within each housing unit. Each housing cube will incorporate different spatial and volumetric configurations that will create distinct social interaction spaces within the housing unit. Diverse materials and volumes configurations can be incorporated to give each housing unit a unique façade.
