Magical Realism

Accuracy of details is paramount in the exploration of scenes which take place in a magical or nostalgic context.

Whether conveying movement or stillness, both carry equal yet opposite challenges.

When conveying movement, figures should be dynamically posed and compositionally work in conjunction with their environment, rather than be cluttered by it, drawing the viewer into the story, where and when it takes place, while leaving room for the viewer’s own memories, ideas and interpretations to lend weight to the quality of work they see.

Conversely, when conveying stillness, environmental factors are paramount in supporting the contextual weight of the subject’s stillness, with each working in tandem to create a sense of cohesion, balance and concerted representation of dynamism without movement.
