The logo of woolyknit in 2012 and my redesign currently in use by woolyknit
Woolyknits mascot "wooly" redesign done by myself towards the end of 2014
At woolyknit there are different wool ranges each range has a different ball band. at the top is the old design followed by the current design. I have also included my favorite redesign that didn't end up being used due to it being "too different" from the existing ball band .
Woolyknit sends out wool colour shade cards to existing and new customers at the top is the old design, This was a peice of A4 card folded into 4 that then had pieces of wool tied to one edge. I changed this in a few was the card is now 21 x 5cm double sided strip that has the wool tied to the edge. One of the most helpful additions was hole punch guides so the all the cards look unifore. This design reduced the cost of paper, ink, postage and man hours.
Woolyknit is the sister company to shepley yarns. Shepley yarns had its own wool shade card book which gets updated yearly. At the top is the outside of the shade card that was in use in 2013 followed by my redesign in 2014.
Since starting at woolyknit i have been required to design a number of unique adverts and flyers before i started as there full time graphic designer the company used the same advert that can be seen at the top
This was an advert i made to adverted that woolyknit would be attending the craft, hobby and stitch convention.
one of the conventions woolyknit attends its yarndale. This advert was made for the events magazine, with so many different wool company's advertising in one place it was important to make something that would stand out. this was a fun task that allowed me to us some of my drawing skills
This advert was made for the Magazine Knit now who were having a special baby addition
At the start of 2015 woolyknit started advertising with the oldham chronicle. the most challenging part of this work is that the MD wanted all aspects of the business advertising in the same 1/4 page. It was tricky to finding a nice way of displaying the 4 sectors of woolyknit ie the cafe, shop, wholesale and outside catering and making the advert look like it all belonged together.
l flyer to advertise the woolyknit cafe that is attached to the wool shop
This was a poster made to advertise the cafe St george's day event
Woolyknit 2015 easter Advert/ poster
This was the very first advert/ poster i made for woolyknit. and my first encounter of trying to advertis 2 separate events under one name
This is a halloween advert/ flyer comparison.
One of my main tasks at woolyknit is making the pattern front covers. I use the pictures of the garment and put them into my matter layout. sometimes this will require me to do quite a lot of subtle photoshopping to the image as can be seen with this example
This is a comparison of one of the old woolyknit pattern covers and my redesign. When a patterns need reprinting this gives me the opportunity to change the cover art. I use the same photography but have laid them out in the new style
This is a comparison of one of the old woolyknit pattern covers and my redesign. i have kept the original tone of the Photography and changed the logo colour and inset picture to fit with the design.
A comparison of one of the old woolyknit pattern covers and my redesign. This one has a long name to the logo has been adapted to reflect this.
Some of the patterns require charts the the pattern designer has requested. For these I make a pixel art image and then graph out the chart in illustrator. once we are both happy with the design I lay out the pattern cover, instructions and chart next to each other in indesign
