  • Up to around this time, all my artwork was airbrush and marker (and we're talking those stubby little Magic Marker bottles with a tip the size of a door wedge) with a little pen, pencil and gouache thrown in for good measure. After 2002, I started doing the airbrush work on Photoshop, but most of the sketches were still drawn by hand and scanned. It's all done on A3 size (420 x 297mm) layout paper, so details were sometimes drawn under a magnifying glass.

  • This was actually a hastily-prepared reworking of the final design sketch for the officially-sanctioned pre-launch 'leak' to the French press, with the important parts altered to disguise the layout. The rear cylinder was hidden, and the angle of the front cylinder raised to the horizontal. The true package can be seen in the profile views.
