Green Roof Library
Green Roof Library: 05/2021
For my second capstone project, I designed a library with a green roof. Green roofs are very innovative and could help solve the looming problem of global warming.
It is a three level library, with two levels above ground and one below. I used curtain walls for the upper levels. I created a space that covers all three levels, with a big skylight at the top to provide natural light to the basement. This gave me the opportunity to add some indoor balconies. I also created some study areas. In this sense, my library is more like a college library than a regular public library. I’ve also been to several libraries with an emphasis on each floor, such as geography or art. Although that is more of a job for interior design, I attempted to incorporate a theme on each floor. My library will also have a music room (with walls with an STC of at least 60). Because it is a commercial building, I had to add two sets of stairs, as well as two elevators.
