Hexacloud Modular Shelving - Hexacloud was developed for a client in West Seattle and was designed with the intent to rethink how shelves are used. Your typical shelf requires one to stick books and albums in so that the spine or title is showing. From a purely functional/volumetric perpsective this makes sense, however, book and album covers are work of art in and of themselves. The client expressed a need want to show off her collection while having the shelf be semi-functional and sculptural.
Hexacloud Modular Shelving - In elevation each module is a hexagon but in three dimensions is actually three faces to box and gives it a rather dynamic formal appearance. The pattern consists of several repetitive elements: the boxes themselves, tabs, and a stainless steel frame. Twenty box faces can be nested compactly onto one sheet of plywood while 25 tabs fit onto a single sheet making for an efficient use of material.
