The original assignment for my Figure Drawing class was to create a collage or mosaic portrait. I had the image that I wanted to use as the basis for it but was unsure of what material to use. Inspiration struck after emptying my father's paper shredder.
I ran several sheets of colored construction paper through a cross-cut shredder and began organizing them into a palate based upon what they could be applied to.
After several days the face and skin is completed. I began with the eyes figuring correctly that they would require the most detail work. Once I could move onto the skin the process moved faster as I'd marked where the differences in shading and tone would occur.
Here you can see the dress and hair highlights completed.
And finally the completed, framed work. This piece one that semester's "Best In Show" award from the Student Art Exhibition.
