Melon Contemporary Cafe Seating - A collaborative project (with Greg Ball and Adriean Koleric) submitted to the Tokyo Designer Block 2003. Melon is designed to incorporate seating and a table in one seamless shape. The translucent plastics and acidic colours play with light and reflection.
Double Jig - Completed as an entry into the 2003 Canadian Bombay Sapphire Student Glass Design Competition. After brainstorming dozens of ideas through card sketch-models, the final design was modeled and rendered for entry into the competition. After being shortlisted from over 100 national entries to four, the glass ended up placing 3rd. The symmetric shape of the design allows for either end to be used as the "cup" with the base and bearing ball remaining to act as a 3-dimensional coaster.
Vultus Fashion Glasses - A collaborative project with Greg Ball, Vultus Fashion Glasses were originally designed as an entry into a Japanese eyewear design competition. The submitted concept utilized a subdermal magnetic implant placed in the forehead that clipped to the metal frames. After achieving an honourable mention from a field of over 1500 international entries, a version of the design was subsequently produced and sold in Japan.
Tum Coffee Table - A coffee table completed for a senior-level furniture class. The rib structure under the table functions to indirectly connect the table legs to the table surface. An edge of the table peels away to show the complexity underneath, normally hidden from view.
LRT Platform Artwork - Designed as a competition entry to add artwork on a light rail transit station at the University of Alberta Hospital. The concept centered around 60 backlit, tempered glass squares randomly distributed across the platform. Coloured opaque and translucent vinyl film applied underneath the glass squares creates the shape of roman crosses when illuminated. The colours are inspired by ribbon awareness campaigns.
