SpO2 Finger Clip Lifecycle Test Fixture

Philips healthcare MR division focused on developing products for the unique constraints of the MR suite. One of the first projects I supported in was conducting a lifecycle durability test on the silicone material on the clip. These are the clips that are put on your index finger when admitted to the hospital. Considering the lifecycle of this test and the sample size, I knew that it would take me 14 days to complete this test manually so I designed this fixture to automate the process. It is powered by a DC motor that drives a gear system specifically designed to reach a pre-determined flexion. I sketched the concept, modeled it in PTC Creo, and created a 2-D exploded view for documentation purposes. I sourced all materials via McMaster Carr and worked with our onsite fabricator and an offsite rapid prototyper to make the custom parts. The fixture was able to complete the test in 2 days.
