This project was for my furniture design class in which we were allowed to design any piece of furniture we desired as long as it was made using 3/4 inch birch faced plywood. So I came up with this cross sectioned lounge chair design that has influence from the appearance of prehistoric fossils.
To begin this process I made a few volume sketches from which I would choose a final design and simply section the entire volume to give the fossil like appearance. I also played around with some color theory and rendered a few settings and styles like the primary color and triadic renderings you see above.
Finally I spread out the parts I had designed in CAD onto my plywood and used a CNC router to cut them. I pieced them back together using very minimal but strong 1/4 inch chromolly tubing to create the model you see at the bottom left corner.
