Untitled (Hand Woven Rug)
This is a rug I designed and wove by hand. The warp is made from linen and the weft is wool, half natural, half died in an acid (vinegar) die bath. The geometric pattern was created by a crossed weft technique done at three different points along the weft. Peter Collingwood was my king while learning rug weaving techniques.
My geometric design has a certain candor that I felt very suiting to weaving and the hand crafts. The triangle, a basic shape of three sides has impressive strength. The triangle has had multiple significances symbolically throughout history, including the trinity, a unity of body, mind and spirit.
