This project focused on the development of a concept wristwatch. Emphasis was placed on developing a new way to read time, surface texturing and a sleek modern aesthetic. Design development drew inspiration for sun dials and their fixed vertical fixture. There was a particular interest in time moving around a fixed point, similar to the concept of the planets revolving around the sun.
The final design focused on maintaining a sleek modern aesthetic with an emphasis on delicate detailing and surfacing. Time is displayed via two rotating discs. These discs rotate clockwise and time is always referenced from the vertical white marker on the lens surround.
The body and strap have elastomer-like qualities which allows the watch to stretch around the hand and conform to the users wrist. The strap interior has a unique textured surface that draws inspiration from contemporary sporting shoes. The purpose of this is to visually express the concept of grip between the watch and user wrist.
