Masterplan - Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design

A new vision of the school of MIAD. Our goal was to organize the programming of spaces in order to allow the public to the art and design work that this school is continuously producing while enhancing its overall first impressions upon entry. The two driving principles behind the design was to open up more public gathering space that is infused with gallery display space, and also to further utilize MIAD's prime location along the Milwaukee River and its public RiverWalk. These principles were nicknamed "Mainstreet" and "Boardwalk". Galleries were previously enclosed rooms only open on specific dates. Proposed galleries would be scattered throughout an expansive public space along students daily routes to and from class. An elevated walkway with transformable access to the RiverWalk capitalized on the schools location and allows MIAD to be an art destination along this public landmark.
