It is a tradition for all new members to be assigned a mentor. This mentor is their "big sister," and the friendships are expected to last for a lifetime. This past year, I was in charge of assigning mentors (Bigs) and mentees (Littles). In addition to the usual ask-system (where girls send me a small list of people they would enjoy having as their Big or Little), I also developed and sent out a questionnaire with a few questions that would help me to determine the personalities of each girl. I used these answers, in addition to the lists, to help me match girls. Then, it is also a tradition to have a "Big/Little Reveal," where at one big event, the Littles find out who their Bigs are. For this event, I decided to do a curtain drop, but I had every pairing wear a different pair of matching socks. The girls then stood across from the socks under the curtain that matched their own, and once everyone was matched, the curtain dropped! All 42 pairing were successful matches.
As part of my position in my sorority in 2014, I was to plan the Bid Day celebration. This is where, right after the new members find out to which sorority they were accepted, they gather together with their new sisters (upperclassmen) and celebrate their acceptance. For this event, I planned a 1940's-themed celebration. All girls wore star-spangled, vintage-y shirts with Rosie the Riveter red bandanas. Ice cream was served out of custom AOII mason jars, and the rooms was decorated with old war posters doctored for this event. Swing dance music played in the background, and girls used the hashtag #aoiibidday to document their great news! I also asked the AOII store to send a box of merchandise, which was sold at the celebration to new members looking for AOII gear to wear on campus to proudly show off their new letters. The event was a huge success and went one two hours longer than planned because everyone was having such a great time!
In 2013, I helped with the AOII Rose Sale. This is our annual fundraiser for our philanthropy, the Arthritis Foundation. I helped to write a multi-media campaign that included video, photos, flyers, and a table setup at the student life center (pictured). The social media and flyers drove over 1,000 students to our booth, and sales increased 450% from the year previous.

T-shirts for the 1940's vintage Americana-themed Bid Day celebrations. AOII's symbols are the sheaf of wheat, the rose with no thorns, and the panda (because it has no natural enemies).

I served as AOII New Member Educator in 2014. I hosted a workshop once a week to train members in the history, traditions, customs, rules, and benefits of the sorority. I used these Prezis to make the workshops more interactive and visually stimulating than it had been in previous years, when educators had simply read out of the handbook.
