Courting Columns - Wovens & Fine fabrics

This, my 2nd collection, moves toward structure and line. I designed around the idea of stable man-made structures like the pillars in a Parisian courtyard--which became my main concept image for this collection-- combined with the brilliant lines of sunlight which are ever-changing. I used silk, charmeuse and dupioni shantung, but kept the colour palette monochromatic. I pleated the shantung to imitate the structure of the pillars and to add texture. The bit of colour I did add was an olive cotton twill fitted pant, and a navy striped casual jacket, made from cotton mattress ticking. The jacket can be worn closed or open with the belt tied to the side, which then serves as an interesting accessory. The wing-shouldered bodice is boned for support and structure, with straps made from woven metal ribbon. Metal zippers on the silk dress and skirt keep the look from being too soft. This customer is proud of her femininity but also wants to show that she is stable, assertive, and grounded.
