flyman_1 - These images are a series of sketches hand drawn onto postcards. Initially the images where created to kill a bit of boredom and time whilst at work, but then as I started getting into them I wanted to explore the idea of a non human character being placed in very human situations. This image was one of the 1st created so looks a little different to the later images

flyman_2 - This was another one of the earlier images which is still very much on the initial character design states. With this image I try'd to make the eyes look a little more fly like. I didn't end up sticking with this style of eye as it's kinda time consuming and rather difficult to draw convexed hexagonal eyes. So I ended up going with the simple four line cross technique. And yes after I drew this I realised i'd wrote aloud instead of allowed... Silly dyslexia

flyman_3 - This images was when I had settled with the look of the character, but, hadn't yet decided what kind of setting to go with. So (obviously) I went with the "super hero" setting and started with a godzilla inspired images.

flyman_4 - Again here is another super hero inspired image. This was the last one like this as after this I decided to work on images with a completely contrasting image as you can see in the next images.

flyman_5 - This was the first images I created after I had decided to look look at flyman being a character who's images in life are captured as if he was a real person. I wanted to place the character in situations which have a very significant and human feel to the illustration. This images was inspired by a picture I found of myself when I was 15 years old in my bedroom.

flyman_6 - I wanted to create the character more human like and I wanted people to warm to him. So I thought what better then to place him in a situation where people can relate instantly and smile.

flyman_7 - This image was created straight after the previous image. I think the previous image made me feel more like I wanted to create a family of fly people as appose to just a single character. At this stage I'm really liking the direction of the illustrations as I'm seeing a noticeable progression from creating a superhero fly to creating a suburban fly family.

flyman_8 - This image was is another image which capture another one of those hallmark moments in life
