Trying to love the self - 2015

This was my submission for my first year exhibition at PCA within the BA Fine Art course.
The whole installation is based on the documentation of a performance piece where I tried to kiss every part of my body that I could reach with my mouth.

With this piece, I wanted to question the idea of love and self-love for women in the 21st century. Indeed, women are constantly asked to change their body in order to match society's idea of the 'perfect woman' which makes it hard for most of them to love themselves and especially their bodies.

I tried to express the idea of the struggle by trying to cover as much of my body as I could with lipstick (used as a representation for love), even areas that are not usually reachable with my mouth.
The A2 pictures are close ups of some parts of my body (the lips, the inside of the elbow, the knee and the ankles) where the boundary between red and white spaces is visible.
