The final image; only thing differing from the sketch is the removal of the pursuer’s shadow (which is still included in an alternate version)
The sketch was created from values. The dramatic lighting was important so that is what I ultimately started with.
The final designs for the painting’s frame and fireplace. I researched a lot of different styles but ended up liking the extravagant Rococo look the most for the frame, and a less flashy but equally bold Victorian style for the mantle.
The painting; rendered originally in black and white, colored later based around the illustration.
The alternate illustration with the shadow. I love the drama but ultimately felt it was too busy and contradicted the lighting situation.

Novia, Cornered

At Minnesota State I participated in a one-shot D&D campaign event for Halloween, and this scene of my character kept playing in my head. It took 30+ hours of designing, rendering and editing—a good 2 weeks of on-and-off work—but it turned out exactly how I had pictured it.
