Senior Year: Augmented Limbs

This was a fascinating project, about wearable art that began my semester in a swing studio (i.e. a studio outside my major). The Art +Design studio that I took focused on fashion and textiles.

My focus on this project was a combination of fashion and practicality. I wanted to design something that gave a level of fashion and aesthetic desirability to artificial limbs. The final iteration was a kind of glove/sleeve that had a very mechanical and cybernetics inspired look to it, that would be ideally used in fashion shows for iconic statements. The fashion images used in my project are from Gareth Pugh's 2013 Spring/Summer Runway collection (source images by Vogue).

I actually plan on revising this project, more in the sense that I originally wanted to execute it. My re-design would be an attachment/cover for artificial limbs, to allow people to recapture a level of aesthetic vanity in their situation. It would be almost positive attention-seeking, and ideally empowering.
