Rammed earth has high specific heat.
That means it takes a long time to heat up, feeling cool well into the day, and a long time to cool down, feeling warm well into the night.
Although the ice cream and the bread of an ice cream sandwich come out of the freezer at exactly the same temperature, the ice cream conducts heat more quickly, so it feels colder when you bite into it. This temperature contrast is part of what makes ice cream sandwiches enjoyable. Similarly, the copper seat panels of the bench conduct heat much more quickly than the ceramic ones. So when visitors sit on the bench, they'll perceive a temperature contrast between the ceramic and copper panels.

Minstrel Rammed Earth Park Bench
When people go to a city park, they go to escape the city. That idea drove the whole design of the Minstrel park bench, which is created to suppress man-made, urban, and technical sensations, in favor of delivering natural sights, sounds, smells, and feels.
For example, most of the bench is made of compacted dirt, which, as parts of it slowly erode, accumulate around the base of the bench, allowing grass to grow there, blending the bench into the park.
