SERVICE LEARNING: Individual Project
JUNE 2014
The John Fair Spinal Cord Injury Foundation (JFSCIF) is an organization targeted toward teen and young adult populations providing economic relief, education and awareness to newly injured spinal cord patients. The founder of the organization wished to supply an affordable housing facility that provided respite care, life skills training and therapy. Johnny's Place is planned to interact with the rest of the community as well as the live in residents. I was assigned to quickly create a set of plans that would fit on the sixty by one hundred-twenty lot located in northeast Houston. With limited space, my proposed building design had to be ADA compliant, include eight efficiency apartments, a recreational room, classrooms, therapy facilities and a community kitchen and dining area. Much needed scenic outdoor areas and gardens were placed on a green roof because of limited space.
