Tactical Urbanism - South Africa

A Journey of Inclusion and Enlivening in Nomzamo
(Past) Once upon a time in Nomzamo, an invisible divide separated the community - Apartheid System. On the one side, a thriving white society flourished; on the other impoverished black class fought for a better life. A towering compound wall stood as a physical and symbolic barrier, further deepening the divide between the two.
Amid this stark contrast, a barren land acted as a buffer zone, symbolizing the neglected space between the communities. But change was on the horizon.
(Present) We came together with a purpose– an urban tactical intervention to transcend these boundaries and create inclusive community activities. Our vision was to infuse color, vibrancy, and a sense of community into the lives of both sides, starting with a transformation zone represented by a circular ring.
