Saddle Rocker - My senior capstone project was spent developing materials and manufacturing techniques that are faster and cheaper for producing furniture. The Saddle Rocker is one of many pieces resulting from that research. The material developed was a resin impregnated felt composite. In this application the material has mechanical characteristics similar to ply wood but requires much less time and energy to yield very complex curves.
Child's Inhaler - There is a growing demand for medical products designed specifically for children. This inhaler plays with the idea of carrying and using an emergency inhaler. The clip allows the inhaler to be attached to a backpack.
Zipper Chair - The hang chair adds versatility to high traffic areas. Unzipped, corridors and small apartments can accomodate increased foot traffic. Zipping up the seam provides increased seating. In a residential setting, the chair could be taken off the wall and used as a floor mat with an adjustable head rest.
LCD monitors and DVD technology are perfect for college students and migrant twentysomethings. The Portive monitor/DVD player is wrapped with features that make it easy to transport without damaging the monitor or losing components like the remote. The inherent double life of LCD TVs as computer monitors increases their value.
Raised section watches - These watches play with the idea of reading time both digitally and in analog. Rather than using a back lit LCD or arms to communicate time, the raised section watches use surface change and depth perception. This technique results in a clean sculptural timepiece. Small electromagnets would be etched on the circuit board of the watch allowing the sections to raise and lower relative to the surface of the watch using minimal mechanics or power.
