The top of the mace is a scale model of the Yale Architecture building designed by Paul Rudolph. The building, coulmn and pommel are 3d printed aluminum.
Minerva and YSOA sheilds are cast silver. Parts were lost wax casted using a wax 3d printer.
Me performing delicate silver work.
The ash wood handle is crafted in 4 sections tapering from a square profile on top to a circle at the bottom and has been dyed black. The handle features the same corduroy texture as the walls of Rudolph Hall.
The pommel of the mace is a badminton shuttlecock, celebrating the student tradition of turning the school’s review pits into badminton courts. The base of the shuttlecock is an acorn, recalling Connecticut’s Charter Oak, and its feathers are in the shape of elm leaves for New Haven, the Elm City.

Yale Architecture Ceremonail Mace

The Dean of YSOA requested an updated ceremonial mace for convocation and assigned the project to the shop staff. We worked in collaboration with the Dean's office to work out the design of the mace and used various CNC machines to craft the components. I handled all 3d modelling, a majority of the fabrication and final assembly.
