First Year University Assignment: An Ecological Hub
This project required students to design an ecological student hub located amidst various universities of the Dubai International Academic City
It had to serve the following pre-requisites:
- a fully functional space for social activities
-act as an icon that represents the educational and campus lives of the diverse students of academic city
-build a platform for the growth of local economic opportunities
-incorporate green strategies
the proposed design has managed to incorporate these conditions by adopting a subterranean approach - by placing the 2 story building beneath the terrain of the Academic city plot.
This project takes inspiration from various Earth ships being designed by environmentally aware architects. The main inspiration behind this design is the work of the renowned architect Malcomn Wells, who believed a subterranean design is the solution to the environmental challenges being faced today.
