Personal Art Work

Artist Statement for Nicole Crowder:

The paintings I create bring my travels to life. I work from photographs and memories, of everywhere from England and Mexico to Thailand and the Philippines. I currently focus on realism on a small scale, evolved from large abstract pieces. I paint a rough splash of colour first, and then switch to pen ink for detail, ending in texture and gloss. Mixed media, from pencil to eggshells, build layers like the five senses do while experiencing a street on the other side of the world. Travel influences me towards easily portable watercolour paper. And my style grows and changes along my transition from student to graphic designer. I aim for paintings that make a vivid souvenir, global views at home anywhere.
